Unfortunately we have a "Republican Lite" government here which is trying to kiss up to the Americans to relax the border crossing requirements between the US and Canada.

The new tightened requirements (passport instead of a driver's licence/birth certificate) are putting a crimp in tourism by making impromptu day trips across the border all but impossible. Most Americans don't have passports and the wait times are too long to quick trips.

So the hope is that if we show we are tough on terrorism they will you guys will relax the restrictions.

I don't think this has made it to the Supreme Court of Canada yet but the court rejected Security Certificates and may do the same if this lands in front of them.
